North District Age Groups - Inverness Aquadome
COAST swimmers dominated the ND Competition held in Inverness on 11 & 12 December at the first half of the Age Group competition (brought forward due to the re-scheduled competition program as a result of the Commonwealth Games).
In the 10-12 years Age Group Rachel Wood from Bucksburn took gold in the 100, 200, 400 & 800 FS, 100 & 200 BC and 100 & 200 Fly. Lauren Kane (Aberdeen Dolphin) followed her in the medal tally with 1st places in the 100 BRS and 200 & 400 Im with several other podiums. Elizabeth Hughes (Aberdeen Dolphin) also won the 1500 FS.
In the boys 10 - 12 years Tom Primavesi of Cults Otters emerged top with 1st places in the 100&1500FS, 200IM and 200Fly with Jamie Burr (Aberdeen Dolphin) taking gold in the 400 & 800 FS and 100 BC. Stuart McIntosh (Bridge of Don) also took the 100 Fly title and Euan Inglis (Aberdeen Dolphin) the 400 IM title.
In the 13-14 age group Rachel Milne (Aberden Dolphin) dominated the competition with 1st places in the 200, 400, 800 & 1500 FS, 100 & 200 BC, 200 & 400 IM. Eleanor Brooke (Bucksburn) won the 100 & 200 Brs.
In the boys Keith Beveridge (Aberdeen Dolphin) won the 100Fly, 10FS and 1500 FS. Jonathon Hughes also took the 200Fly title.
The AGM was held on 19th November and saw some fresh faces on the Management Committee. The COAST constitution was also updated. Details elsewhere in the contacts section and members only section.
Aberdeen Dolphin retain Mitchell Trophy 19 / 20 Nov 05
Dolphin's prevailed as the top team at their home event in the Bon Accord pool in Aberdeen beating close challengers Warrender for the overall top team. The competition featured no less than 5 Commonwealth Games selected swimmers. The result was helped by top swims from 18 year old Ranald falconer who took the 50m, 100m FS and 100m & 200 BC, Keith Beveridge who came first in 200Fly, 200IM and 100BC, Lauren Kane who the 200 & 100IM and 200 Brs titles, Kent Zang taking the 200Brs and Olympian David Carry making the trip north to take the 200 FS just outside the Scottish Record together with the 200IM.
Other COAST swimmers who won included Robbie Renwick (400FS & 100 Fly), Rachael Wood (200BC), Tom Primavesi (200FS), Michael Adams (1500FS).
Commonwealth Games Selection for Robbie Renwick & David Carry
On 3rd November the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland announced that Robbie Renwick and David Carry were selected as part of the team of 21 swimmers for the 2006 games in Melbourne. For Carry this is the second games and for Renwick his first. This is the second successive
Commonwealth
Games for COAST athletes with Andrew Jameson competing in Manchester in 2002.
The games will be held in March 2006.
ND Open (Short Course) Westhill 1st & 2nd October
COAST swimmers effectively stole the show at the North District Open with 26 swimmers reaching the podium. Although the competition was dominated by Scotland's 3 potential Commonwealth Games athletes - Robbie Renwick, Hannah Miley and Kerry Buchan, strong winning performances were achieved by Ranald Falconer in 100& 200 FS and 100 BC, Steven Sutherland (swimming as Peterhead) in 100 Brs and Eleanor Brooke in 100 Brs.
In the 11/15 year competition Elizabeth Hughes, Chris Stirling, Kent Zang and Tom Primavesi all took Gold in the distance events, with Euan Inglis, Keith Beveridge, Chris Breen, Kath Gordon, Alisa Hill claiming a silver, and Jamie Burr, Stuart McIntosh and Danielle Peddie contributing to the tally with bronze medals.
Head coach Eileen Adams praised the success of JP/YP and Potential squad swimmers at this annual event. Aberdeen Dolphins won top club award and top girl went to Lauren Kane and top boy to Tom Primavesi. A total of 7 gold, 11 silver 11 bronze were won along with 24 other finalists.
Tom Primavesi broke the Scottish short course record for the 100 fly.
Eileen stated that this was an exceptionally encouraging performance especially at the beginning of the season.
More than 20 COAST swimmers (representing their clubs) claimed medals at the North District Sprints in Inverness 10 / 11 September. Steven Sutherland won 2 ND records in the 100 IM and 50 Brs (16 yr), Tom Primavesi also took the 11 yr records in 50 FS and 50 Fly with Naomi Shepherd clainming a 11 year record in the 50 BC.

ASA Age Group, Youth & Open / Commonwealth Trials
COAST sent down 2 teams to the ASA competitions in Sheffield from 30 July - 9 August.
Main headlines were the COAST 18 & under relay teams taking gold in both the 4 x 200 Fs and 4 x 100m FS relay and David Carry winning the 400m IM in a new Scottish Record of 4:19.15.
The relay swimmers were Robbie Renwick, Ranald Falconer, Kyle O'Neill & Adrian O'Neill for the 200 and Renwick, Falconer, A. O'Neill and Steven Sutherland for the 100m relay. Renwick swam a superb final leg of 50.55 to gain 2 places and touch first.
Commonwealth times were achieved by David Carry in the 200m FS, 400 IM and 200 IM with Robbie Renwick re-affirming his qualification for 200m FS and having already achieved the 400m FS along with David.
Finalist in the competitions included
100m FS - Robbie Renwick 51.35 in 17/18 age group; Ranald Falconer 51.68 in the Open final
100m Fly - Martin Leel 55.32 (6th) in the Open; Adrian O'Neil 58.27 (5th) in the 15/16 age group
200 FS David Carry (2nd) 1:48.32; Rob Renwick (4th) 1:50.33 in the Open; Ranald Falconer 1:53.39 (3rd) in 17/18 group.
400m FS Robbie Renwick (1st) 3:59.97 in 17/18 group.
Overall the COAST male team came 5th - One of our best achievements to date.
European Junior Championships Budapest Hungary
COAST's Robbie Renwick was one of 6 Scottish swimmers in the Junior British Team consisting of 1989/90 girls and 1987/88 boys. Robbie reached finals in 3 events - 5th place in the 200mFS off his PB, 2nd place in the 400m FS in a time of 3:55.18 which is also a Commonwealth qualifying time and brought the 4 x 200 FS relay home in the fastest leg time of 1.51 to come 5th.
Overall COAST performed well, coming 3rd top team at the annual Age Group, Youth & Open championships at Tollcross, Glasgow.

16yr old Robbie Renwick picked up silver in the open 200 Freestyle on day 1 of the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow recording 1.50.37 - inside the Commonwealth Games qualification time and setting a new Scottish Age record..

15 year old Adrian O'Neill continued his fine form from the opening day to take a second title in the Boys 15 years competition, recording a time of 2.12.21 for the 200IM. Team mate Jonathan Greig picked up the bronze in the same race in 2.16.76.
Nicola Shand won bronze in the Girls 124 years 200Fly in 2.27.09.

Mare Nostrum Tour
Ranald Falconer and Martin Leel were in a party of 8 Scottish Swimmers taking part in the Mare Nostrum Tour in Europe. Martin finished 5th & 7th in the 'B' finals of the 100 and 200m Fly. Ranald recorded a PB in 100m FS i the first round in Barcelona.

Edinburgh International
COAST swimmers, many recently returned from an intensive training camp in Florida, acquitted themselves well in a high quality competition at the weekend in Edinburgh.
In the Open age group, British Youth International swimmer, Martin Leel, won the 100Fly (57.29) and took silver in the 200Fly (2.08.83). Ranald Falconer took silver in the 100Back (1.01.40).
In the 15/16 age group Steven Sutherland won the 100Free (55.76) and took silver in the 100Breast (1.09.45). Adrian O'Neill took 3 silvers (100Free 55.85, 100Fly 59.00, 200Fly 2.10.59) and a bronze in the 200Free (1.59.57).
In the boys13/14 age group, Keith Beveridge won the 200Fly (2.22.07), Ross MacDonald was second in the 200Back (2.21.22) and third in the 100Back (1.06.92). In the girls competition, Nicola Shand took silver in the 100Fly(1.07.07) and bronze in the 200Fly (2.27.89).
North District Age Group Champs
A group of young COAST (City of Aberdeen Swim Team) swimmers representing their individual clubs competed in Inverness in the North District Championships at the weekend.
Top individual medal winners by age group:
10-12 years: Boys - Greig Morrison - 9 gold and 1 silver Girls - Rachel Wood - 2 gold and 1 silver
13-14: years: Boys - Ross MacDonald - 2 gold and 3 silver Girls - Nicola Shand - 7 gold and 2 bronze
15 and over: Boys - Tom Lindsay - 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze Girls: Debbie Moore - 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze
Other notable medal winners included Rachel Milne in the girls 13-14 years with 4 silver and 2 bronze medals, Keith Beveridge in the boys 13-14 years with 1 gold and 4 silver and Jamie Burr in the 10-12 years with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
City of Aberdeen Awards
Eileen Adams was awarded the top Professional Coach Award by Aberdeen City Council for her achievements in swimming with COAST.
ASDA British Long Course Trials (March 19 - 23)
6 days of top competition in Manchester for 6 COAST swimmers resulted in Martin Leel just missing out on the medals in the 100 & 200 Fly whilst Robbie Renwick and Ranald Falconer both qualified for the European Juniors in Budapest in July. Ranald made the 4 x 100 FS relay and Robbie qualified for both 200 & 400 FS.
Scottish Spring Open & Age Group Meet
16 year old Robbie Renwick took top honours this weekend at the Scottish Spring long course meet in the 15/16 age group. Renwick won gold in 50 BC (28.67), 100Free (52.77), 200Free (1.54.65), 400Free (3.59.40) and silver in the
1500Free(16.40.22).
Fellow Performance squad swimmer 19 year old Martin Leel dominated the Butterfly competition in the open age group winning the 50Fly(25.93), 100Fly(56.43) and the 200Fly(2.04.01).
15 year old Adrian O’Neill also impressed with a number of strong performances in the 15/16 events collecting a silver in the 100Fly(59.03) and bronzes in the 200Fly(2.11.21) and the 200IM(2.13.80).
Also in the boys 15/16 category, !6 year old Steven Sutherland won silver in the 50Breast(31.60), and bronze in the 100Free(55.52) and bronze in the 200Breast(2.37.73).
In the girls events 14 year old Nicola Shand was second in the 13/14 100Fly(1.08.65) and in the 200Fly(2.26.18) and third in the 400Free (4.41.20).
1500Free successes came from 16 year old Michael Adams in the 15/16 age group(16.35.58) and from Greg Morrison in the 10/12 age group event (19.13.71).

Scottish Speedo Open/Youth Short Course Swimming Championships Tollcross Glasgow

COAST Performance Squad swimmers took home 5 open age group medals, 4 Youth medals and 5 Junior champion medals in the Scottish Short Course Championships at Tollcross at the weekend.
In the OPEN events 18 year old Ranald Falconer took bronze medals in the 50Fr (23.52) and 100Bk (57.95). Youth Commonwealth Games swimmer Robbie Renwick (16) also bagged 2 bronzes in the 200Fr (1.49.24) and
the 400Fr (3.52.42) and butterfly specialist Martin Leel took silver in the 50Fly (25.39).
In the YOUTH competition (16 and under), Tom Lindsay won gold in the 50Fr (24.44) and bronze in the 59Fly (26.66), Kyle O’Neill took silver in the 1500Fr (15.48.06) and Steven Sutherland also won silver
in the 50Br (30.75).
Three Junior Scottish Champion medals (15 and under) were won by Steven Sutherland in the 50Br (30.64), 100Br (1.06.88) and 200Br (2.32.01). Michael Adams won the 1500Fr (16.04.73) and Adrian O’NNeill won the
200IM (2.08.96).
Young COAST (City of Aberdeen Swim Team) swimmers competing at the SAS Junior Swim Meet at Westhill at the weekend took the top team trophy. As well as a strong overall performance, there were some outstanding individual displays.
Best boy trophies were won by Stuart Murray (12) and Russell Thom (13) and the best 13 year old girls trophy went to Rachel Green.
Stuart took gold in the 200Bk (2.37.79), 400Fr (5.13.79), 200Fly (2.49.24) and 400IM (5.44.23). He took silver in the 200IM, 200Fr, 1500Fr and 200Br.
Russell took gold in the 1500Fr (19.15.73), silver in the 200Bk and bronze in the 400IM.
Rachel won gold in the 200Bk (2.39.02), 400IM (5.43.54) and 200Br (2.58.32) with silvers in the 200Fr, 400Fr and 200IM.
11 year old Rachel Wood also had a clutch of tremendous swims winning the 800Fr in a new meet record of 10.44.94 as well as the 400Fr (5.15.13) and 200Fly (2.57.21). In addition she won silvers in the 400IM, 200Fr and 200IM and a bronze in the 200Bk.
In the 15 years boys competition, Performance squad swimmer Christopher Wilson won the 200IM (2.18.04), 400IM (4.57.05), 200Fr (2.06.31) and the 50Br (33.55) in addition to silvers in
the 50Fly and 200Bk.
