4 Coast swimmers to compete in the UK School Games
Results
Four City of Aberdeen Swim Team members swam at the inaugural UK Schools Games in Glasgow on 9 September 2006. Jonathan Greig (16), Adrian O'Neill (16), Keith Beveridge (15) and Nicola Shand (15) were selected to represent the Scotland North & West team in the event designed to hone the competition skills of the countries most talented young sports stars ahead of the London Olympics.
Greig, the current Scottish National Open Age Group Champion in the 400 and 1500 Freestyle, won the silver medal in the 200 Freestyle and was placed 4th in the 400 Freestyle. O'Neill collected the silver medal in the 200 Individual Medley and bronze in the 400 IM. Reigning Scottish Junior Champion Beveridge also collected a bronze in his favoured 200 Butterfly and finished 8th in the 100 Butterfly. Shand was placed 6th and 5th in the 100 and 200 Butterfly respectively.
The senior British team took the honours as top nation with their best ever haul of 13 medals. It could have been much better with eight 4th places including two for Aberdeen's David Carry in the 400 IM and FS. However David confirmed his standing as the top middle distance swimmer in Britain.
Robbie Renwick - has 2 good swims in the 200 & 400 FS coming a creditable 13th in the 200m but missing out on the semi final due to the 2 per nation ruling. However Robbie together with David, and fellow Scots Andy Hunter and Euan Dale, was part of the 4 x 200m FS relay which took silver behind Italy.

COAST sent a team of 7 swimmers plus a relay team of 14yr old boys to the ASA Age Groups and a larger more experienced team of 9 swimmers to the ASA Youth & Open competitions, held in Sheffield from 25 - 31 July and 1 - 6 August respectively. Although no COAST swimmers made the podium there was some excellent swims with many PB's and several finalists.
Top ranking finalist was Ranald Falconer who was 5th in 100FS, 9th in 100BC, 10th in 50 BC and 50 FS.
Adrian O'Neill hit the finals of the 100& 200 Fly coming 6th and 9th resp. and also came a creditable 8th in the 200 IM.
Chris Wilson and Steven Sutherland came 6th & 7th in the 100m Brs respectively.
Michael Adams was just outside the 400m FS final along with Jonathon Greig and Michael also put in strong performances in the 800 & 1500m FS.
It was a step up for Keith Beveridge in the 100 & 200 Fly who posted good times along with Nicola Shand and Rachael Milne who competed well in the 200 Fly and 200 & 400 IM events.
The relays could not emulate last years winning performance but the senior boys finalled in the 4 x 100 Im (10th) and 4 x 200 FS (9th).
In the ASA Age Group events, Elliot Martin (11) reached the final of the 400IM, finishing in 5th place in a new North District record time of 5:31.80. There were two other noteable performances in the 400IM with Catherine Cameron (11) breaking her own North District record and Tom Primavesi setting a new 12 year old COAST record.
Lauren Kane (12) was in fine form swimming inside the North District record for both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, but losing out on the day to SAS's Jenny Sangster. However, success was achieved in the 200IM where she set a new ND record for the 200IM.
Euan Inglis (12) reached the final of the final of the 200 Breaststroke, whilst the only other individual swimmer, Elizabeth Hughes (12), swam just outside her own COAST record in the 800 Freestyle.
The boys relay team of Michael McGovern, Chris Stirling, Jonathon Hughes and Stuart Murray pulled out all the stops to reach the 4 x 100 Medley Relay final breaking their North District record by 5 seconds and then again by a further 3 seconds in finishing in 5th place.
European Juniors Palma Mallorca 6 - 9 July 2006
Robbie Renwick was part of the most successful British Junior Team which collected 16 medals and missed several other golden chances at the annual European Junior event in Palma, Mallorca. Robbie's contribution was to win the 200m FS in a British record time of 1:49.26 (900+ LEN points) and to swim the anchor leg in all the relays pulling the team up from non medal positions to 2nd in the 4 x 200m FS and bronze in the 4 x 100m IM.
Despite this success Robbie was disappointed not to do better in the 400m FS but a session on the massage table on the day of the final strained his legs and his customary propeller kick was not firing.
The level of competition was such that the final of the Boy's 100m FS saw all 8 swimmers within 0.8 secs with Robbie touching 8th, off his time in the heats, but which typified much of the competitive nature of this spectacular meet.
Robbie now travels to Budapest on 26th July to compete in the European Senior event at 200 & 400m FS.
Scottish National Open 29 June - 2 July
City of Aberdeen Swim Team member Keith Beveridge (15) was crowned Scottish 200m Butterfly Junior Champion at the Scottish Open Championships. The reigning Scottish Age Group Champion completed the event in a new COAST age group record time of 2:12.27.

David Carry & Robbie Renwick were treated along with other medalists and competitors at the Commonwealth Games to an open top bus procession along Union St. COAST squad swimmers formed the advance party and guard of honour, handing out flags to the crowds who stopped to pay their appreciation.
The procession culminated in an official reception in the townhouse and both swimmers were dressed in the official team tartan.

Sports Awards to COAST members
In February at the Scottish Awards dinner in peebles, Norma Shand was awarded the Volunteer Award for her tireless efforts for Dyce ASC and COAST and Eileen Adams also received the Junior Coach of the Year Award.
We had a good representation at the Aberdeen Sports Council Awards dinner on 21st April, with Robbie Renwick winning the Chris Anderson Trust Award Gold medal and the Junior category of the Sport Scotland awards. Katie Haining won the Disabled award and Eileen Adams won the Professional Coach Award, for the second time.
Ranald Falconer, Adrian O'Neill and Robbie Renwick traveled to Sheffield to meet up with David Carry and many of Britain's top swimmers with the aim of achieving qualifying times for this summers European Junior and Senior championships.
David continued his fine form winning the 200m and 400m FS and added to his qualifying times from Melbourne. Robbie Renwick qualified for the Junior ((1988-89) competition in the 100m, 200m and 40-0m. Scottish National Age Groups Glasgow 24 - 31st March
COAST returned with 10 gold medals from the annual age group championships, which were held earlier this year. It has a very competitive event with many English Teams attending and featuring strongly.
Jonathon Greig (16) was COAST's top performer taking the Age group title in the 16-18 year group in the 400m and 1500m FS and also taking bronze in the 800m FS. Along with Steven Sutherland, Adrian O'Neill and Robbie Renwick, he helped the team to 2 relay golds in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m FS and a silver in the 4 x 100m IM relay.
In the younger age groups, Chris Stirling, Stuart Murray, Jonathon Hughes and Michael McGovern took gold in the 14 & under 4 x 100m IM relay and Greig Morrison came in to help take silver in the 4 x 100m FS.

As Scotland celebrated it most successful games ever in the pool, COAST is celebrating its gold and silver medals. The first of 2 gold medals was won by David Carry in the men's 400m FS. He followed this in superb fashion on day 4 with a gold in the 400 IM. Performance squad swimmer Robbie Renwick was a member of the 4 x 200m FS relay along with David which took silver in an incredibly exciting race. The Scots overtook Australia but were just being pipped by England's Ross Davenport. Our relay set a new Scottish Record and all 4 swimmers went under 1.49 secs for their legs. The relay was managed by Eileen Adams who used her experience to get the most from all the swimmers.
Robbie also had a good swim in the 400m FS heats which drew credits from the pundits, to qualify 6th, however he lost out in a tactical final and eventually ended 7th. He swam well in the 200m FS heats and the 4 x 100m FS relay but did not progress to the finals. Both his 200 & 400m swim were qualifying times for the European Junior and Senior events.
David also made the finals in the 200IM and 200FS and both Robbie and David were in the 4 x 100m FS relay.
We also congratulate all the other Scottish Swimmers who produced such a magnificent feat in Australia.
